Floating notes over YouTube tutorials and lectures
Tutorials and lectures on YouTube are easier to follow when your notes don't cover the player or live in another tab. Float a note above the video, type timestamps and steps as you go, and export clean markdown at the end.

Open floating notes — free →How to do it
- Open the app in Chrome or Edge and create a note titled after the video.
- Pop it out into the floating window.
- Play the video in another tab or window at the size you want.
- Type timestamps (e.g. 12:40) with key points, or use "[ ] " checkboxes for tutorial steps.
- Export the note as .md for your notes folder, Obsidian vault or study docs.
Tips
- Use "# " headings per chapter of the video to keep long lecture notes scannable.
- Code tutorials: wrap snippets in backticks for inline code so they stand out.
- Keep one note per course and pin the one you're currently studying.
FAQ
Can I paste YouTube links with timestamps?
Yes. Links are clickable; a plain click opens them in a new tab when no text is selected.
Does it work with YouTube's own mini-player?
They're independent. The note is its own floating window from the notes tab.
Can I import the notes into Obsidian or Notion?
Export gives standard markdown files, which Obsidian opens directly and Notion can import.
